| Introduction |
| The dentistry program will educate students to become competent dentists with fundamental knowledge in biomedical and behavioral sciences. The graduated dentists will be dedicated to serve the communities and will practice dentistry with the highest level of ethical and moral standards. | Graduation Requirements: |
The degree of Doctor of Dental Medicine can be conferred upon a candidate enrolled in that program who has met the following requirements: satisfactorily completed the required curriculum with a total of not less than 201 semester credit hours; normally completed not less than ten semesters of resident study in an accredited school or college of pharmacy.
The minimum number of years to be awarded the degree is at least 11 semesters and maximum number of years to complete the degree should not exceed 10 years. |

| Admission Requirements: |
Any person is welcome to apply to the Gulf Medical University, Ajman for the Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD). The GMU provides the highest standards of education to all students irrespective of their economic background. However, applicants should satisfy certain standards to be admitted to the GMU. Acceptance in the Doctor of Dental Medicine program is subjected to students overall credentials and availability of places.
The following are the minimum requirements for admission into the DMD program in GMU: |
National General Secondary School Certificates (Science Section)
- The applicant must have secured a minimum of 80% marks as per UAE secondary school education standards or its equivalent as certified by the ministry of education, UAE.
Or
IGCSE, GCSE, GCE
- Minimum of 12 years of schooling; School Leaving Certificate must be provided.
- All applicants must have the following subjects at GCSE level, at grades BBCCC or above (in any order): Biology (or Human Biology), Chemistry, English Language, Mathematics (or additional Mathematics or Statistics), Physics.
- Two As-levels (at grade BC) in Biology and Chemistry.
Or
International Baccalaureate
- Diploma showing that student has successfully passed grade 12 with at least 6 subjects with at least three at higher level (minimum grade of 80 percent). Candidates must offer: three subjects including chemistry or biology and one other science or mathematical subject at higher level, and three subjects at subsidiary level including chemistry or biology, if not offered at the higher level.
Or
American-style High School
- Successfully passing grades (10, 11, and 12) with a minimum of 5 subjects in each grade. Minimum (equivalent to grade B) is required. Only subjects classified as academic are considered in the calculation of the CGPA.
- A minimum score of 500 on the TOEFL. Students who obtain a TOEFL score below 500 may be conditionally admitted provided that they join the Intensive English Program (IEP) at the University. Such students will be officially admitted after they obtain a score of 500 on the TOEFL.
- Passing a personal interview: Appearance for a personal interview before GMU Admissions Committee is a mandatory requirement before the applicant is accepted for the DMD program. In addition to evaluating the academic merit and performance during the interview, the admissions committee will also look into the suitability of the applicants, their attitude and willingness to accept the rigorous discipline required for DMD education before admission into the program.
Applicants are required to get their academic documents and official transcripts / credits / grades / marks endorsed by the Ministry of Education, UAE and submit an equivalency certificate thereof. |

| Curriculum: |
The dentistry program consists of a five-year program (10 semesters). An additional clinical internship of one year duration is mandatory.
The first two years of the curriculum are designed to educate students in biomedical and behavioral sciences.
During the third and fourth year, students will concentrate on preclinical dental sciences courses followed by clinical dental courses providing a valuable clinical experience.
Comprehensive patient care is taught in the fifth year with special considerations to management of the medically compromised patients. These clinical disciplines are carried out under the strict supervision of qualified faculty members.
Students who will fulfill the graduation requirements and have successfully demonstrated the achievement of competencies will be awarded the degree of Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD). |
